The second “must see” on list is the rainforest. There are several options when it comes to a rainforest tour around Cairns. There is the famous Kuranda trip where visitors travel on the Scenic Railway and Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. The other option is Cape Tribulation (the Daintree Rainforest) which is considered one of the oldest rainforest in the world, or travellers can take a more relaxing tour and travel to the beautiful Atherton Tablelands where they see gorgeous waterfalls and lakes.
Kuranda is a shorter tour and very close to Cairns CBD. People usually travel one way by train and the other way by the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. On the way to Kuranda Village visitors experience not just the rainforest but beautiful views of Cairns costline, beaches & Barron falls, this is a great opportunity to take some nice photos of the area. Families and couples love this option.
Cape Tribulation is located about 2.5 hrs north of Cairns so it is a longer day starting early in the morning and finishing in the beginning of the night. On the road to Cape Tribulation travellers have the opportunity to stop in some beautiful locations such as the Rex lookout, Port Douglas town, Mossman Gorge Rainforest Centre, the Daintree River, Cape Tribulation beaches and much more. Backpackers love this tour because some operators offer great budget deals including overnight stays.
The Atherton Tablelands is a highland region of northern Australia near Cairns, Queensland. The landscape's mix of rainforest, wetlands and savanna is home to numerous birds and wildlife like tree kangaroos and wallabies. The region encompasses the Waterfalls Circuit, a 17km driving loop that includes Millaa Millaa Falls, Fig tree, Lake Barrine and Lake Eacham. Great opportunity to get in the water for a swim and experience a little bit of Cairns life style.
