Things to do in Cairns during the wet season

Cairns is a great touristy town with hundreds of tours available daily departing from the Cairns and Port Douglas regions. There are numerous tours to the reef, to the islands, to the rainforest, but what about during the wet season? Don't be too worried because there are plenty of tours to do during a rainy day, with some of them even better during the wet season.

We, from Tourism Cairns have put together a list of tours and activities perfect to do in the wet season.

1 – Daintree Rainforest

The Daintree Rainforest is actually a good tour to do during the rain. Just make sure to be prepared and bring an umbrella or a rain coat though, but the rainforest is actually quite special on a wet day.

The rainforest is characterised by heavy rains and moderate temperatures, hence the coinage “rain-forest”. This type of forest is considered one of the most complex ecosystems on earth and it has a wide diversity of fauna and flora. This is one of the reasons why the Daintree Rainforest is so special.

So travelling to the Daintree Rainforest on a rainy day means that you'll see and experience the real rainforest in its own ideal environment.

2 - White Water Rafting

White Water Rafting is one of the best tours to do in the wet season.

During rainy days the rivers are pumping full of water and they flow much faster, making it the perfect conditions for rafting.

Rafting in the wet is really quite an adventurous and exciting experience. You'll probably have to paddle less but will have to hold on more. Be ready for some adrenaline and a great time.

3 – Bungy Jumping

Bungy Jumping is an activity that's available all year round.

A Bungy Jump can be done in the beautiful sunny weather or in the middle of the wet season. With a short climb up the 50m tower it's an experience you will never forget.

If you find yourself feeling a bit upset about the horrible weather outside, don't be, visit the Bungy site and organise an awesome Bungy Jump or Minjin Swing. You'll be sure to love the adrenaline rush and the great feeling of the free fall.

4 – ATV Ride

An ATV ride is the perfect tour to do in the wet.

This is actually when you should do an ATV ride, on a rainy day. ATV vehicles were designed and built to be ridden through wet roads, mud, and rivers. So if you're after a proper ATV experience, during the rain is your best bet.

Make sure you bring some spare clothes so you can change afterwards but our recommendation is for you to get as muddy as possible during your adventure, making this tour as fun as possible.

5 – Horse Riding

Horse Riding is a popular activity to do in the wet.

The horses are still available to ride on rainy days and the tour continues as per normal. Most Tour Operators offer rain coats and pants to wear on top of your clothes, this way keeping you dry during the ride.
