Quicksilver is a well known company when it comes to tours to the Great Barrier Reef.
Quicksilver was the first company to start taking customers in a commercial vessel to the Great Barrier Reef. Their first trip to the outer reef was in 1983. But they actually started in 1979 with tours to the low isles, a coral cay just off Port Douglas.
Quicksilver now has several vessels operating daily tours to different locations from Cairns and Port Douglas.
The most popular one is the Quicksilver vessel that travels to the Agincourt reef from Port Douglas. The Quicksilver vessel is a 45 metre wavepierce powered by four MTU 2000 series diesel engines. The boat has 3 deck levels with a sundeck at the top, and internally provides lots of options to sit in comfortable seats in spacious rooms.
Quicksilver departs daily from Port Douglas (1h from Cairns) and they provide pick ups from Cairns City. The boat ride to the Agincourt Reef takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes and once visitors get there they have the opportunity to get off the boat and spend the day on a floating platform (pontoon).
The Agincourt reef is a jewel-like ribbon reef on the very outer edge. This type of reef known as ‘ribbons’ is considered one of the most intact eco-systems of the Great Barrier Reef. The water in the region is quite clear providing great underwater visibility.
The floating platform has 2 deck levels and it offers loads of space so travellers have a nice, comfortable and enjoyable experience. There are lots of activities available at the platform, some of them included in the tour price and other activities are available to purchase on the day or in advance.
The included activities are: Visit to the underwater observatory, semi-submersible tour, snorkelling equipment and fish feeding in the afternoon. And the extra activities are: scuba giving (introductory & certified), ocean walker and helicopter flights.
It is also included for the day morning tea, a buffet lunch and afternoon tea.
Customers interested in helicopter flights, there are several ways to have this amazing experience.
