Green Island is a 6,000 year old coral cay located just 50 minutes by boat from Cairns. The island has a reef system which is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The reef is located just off the beach so an easy access. the The island has also a rainforest which is home for 120 species of native plants.
The island is quite small is size measuring approximately 12 hectares. You can even walk around the island and it takes about 1 hour to complete the loop.
The beaches on the Island are quite unique, the sand is very white and the ocean water is crystal clear, making Green Island a paradise place.
There are many departures during the day available from Cairns to Green Island, so customers can have a full day or a half day experience. The trip to the island takes around 1 hour by a high speed catamaran. Please see our "Half Day Green Island Ferry Transfers" for half day tours.

Introductory Divers - NOTE: Certain medical conditions may prevent you from diving (e.g. Asthma, Heart Disease), please contact our office. Min. age to dive is 12 years.
Flying after Diving: If only one dive is undertaken then a minimum of 12 hours is recommended before flying. If more than one dive is conducted in the day, an interval of 24 hours is recommended. This is not applicable for low helicopter flights over the reef.

Reef Tax: Reef Tax is levied for all adults and children entering the Great Barrier Reef. This charge and other levies are INCLUDED in the cruise fares.
Booking fees: Tourism Cairns do not charge any booking fees.
Deposit and final payment: At Tourism Cairns clients are required to pay a deposit only at the time of booking. Final payment is usually paid directly to the tour operator on the day of travel, depending on each tour operator's policy. Some tour operators request full payment at the time of booking.
Cancellation by the traveller: If the tour is cancelled by the client up to 7 days prior to departure, a full refund is applicable. If the tour is cancelled by the client 7 days prior to departure, the deposit amount might be retained. If the tour is cancelled by the client 48 hours prior to departure, 100% cancellation fee may apply.
Booking amendments: If the date of a tour needs to be changed, Tourism Cairns must be notified in writing by the client up to 48 hours prior to the tour date.
